STATEMENT FROM Bill Dermody

Thank you for reaching out to me. I understand the quality of life issues and the health concerns that Needham currently faces with the train horns at our crossings. Over the past years I have supported Safer Quieter Needham and strongly supported the work of the Quiet Zone Working Group (QZWG).

Upgrading our infrastructure at these crossings will not only allow us to apply for Quiet Zone status but it will also make these crossings safer. That is why I am the candidate who voted in favor of Article 30 at the May 2024 Town Meeting to appropriate money for the Quiet Zone Project in order to move this project forward

When elected as Representative, I will work with the Town of Needham and the MBTA to facilitate the implementation of a Quiet Zone and seek funding to help with the Town’s burden. In addition, it will require a collaborative effort between the MBTA and the Town of Needham in order to address the complex crossing at the Needham Golf Club. As your Representative, I will work with various stakeholders to brainstorm solutions and work towards solving the issues at this crossing.
